Sutlej River- Himachal Pradesh

Sutlej River:  In Punjab, the river Sutlej gets heavily polluted by domestic sewage, agricultural run-off and effluent discharged from several types of industrial units which may contain heavy metals.  The project is being executed as a joint venture of the NHPC (69 per cent), Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (26 per cent) and the Manipur Govt (5 per cent).

The results of this study provide valuable information on the metal contents in water, sediment and fish from different sampling stations of the river Sutlej.  With this in mind, a study was planned to determine levels of heavy metals in edible fishes of Satluj river collected from four stations.

ABSTRACT Title: EVALUATION OF HEAVY METAL ACCUMULATION IN SOME TISSUES OF THE EDIBLE FISH FROM THE RIVER SATLUJ IN PUNJAB: Sakshi Jasuja : Dr. Harbhajan Kaur, Professor, Deptt.  Annexure RAJIV GANDHI NATIONAL QUALITY AWARDS 2008 The BEST OF ALL AWARD has been won by Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited, Shimla, and Himachal Pradesh.

Furthermore, a comparison with previous studies on the Sutlej water shows that there is an overall increase in metal contents over the last two decades.
