Artificial Lake at Shangni Pin Valley has no fatal threat – PTI

Shimla: An artificial lake at Shangni Pin valley of the remote/tribal area of himachal Pradesh is not a danger to the localities.  The increasing size and depth were an issue to the people but after breaching the water out of it was declared that it is all safe and would not lead to any fatal damage to the surroundings.

The water from the lake has been breached in order to make the amount of water present in the lake less and to utilize the water in some other irrigation purposes. Such an act would solve the problem of excessive water and simultaneously would solve the scarcity of water.

The area of the lake formed by obstruction of Pin river at an altitude of 11,000-ft had increased to nearly 3.5 sq. km and the depth to 20 to 30-ft, triggering fear among locals that in case it bursts, downstream areas will be flooded. But today it was breached from one side and water was drained out.

This was followed by the deputy commissioner, Lahaul and Spiti who made an aerial survey of the area and declared that the area is all safe for carrying out normal activities.
The discharge of water in Sutlej has increased with fast melting of snow in higher reaches and the people along the bank of the river have been alerted to remain vigilant.  So the good decisions in the state can bear more fruits and would cause no harm as far as disasters are concerned.
